Sustainable
A food system that helps enhance a community’s environmental, economic and social wellbeing. It’s important to know about the source of the foods you consume; how it’s grown, stored, distributed and where it is sold, the process from plot to plate.
Balanced
Eating a variety of nutritionally dense foods that promotes sound health and helps protect against and prevent chronic diseases to see you live a quality fruitful life.
Mindful
The sixth sense after taste, smell, touch, sound and sight that helps influence how you feel on a daily basis and in turn how you then go about your day-to-day activities. Being mindful of how to nourish & fuel your body for work, rest and movement as well as developing an awareness and appreciation for the food journey.

‘BEING’ WORKSHOPS
The learnings and building deeper knowledge and connection to THE LIFECYCLE OF BEING
- Health (physical, mental and social)
- Wellbeing (happiness, contentment, inclusiveness, sense of self)

Teaching Overview
The BEING Planted Life Workshops are separated out into 4 parts:
- Health & Wellbeing (incorporating mindfulness)
- Movement
- Exercise
- Food & Nutrition
By Far, the most popular workshop is; Food & Nutrition. This broad workshop covers many areas of interest within this topic such as:
- Positive Food Behaviours
- What is nutritious food and where does it come from?
- Seasonal foods; why growing your own and/or buying in season is so important
- Environmental footprint
Introduction | Food & Nutrition Workshop
We are what we eat; food provides the fuel our bodies need for energy. We need to constantly replace nutrients in our bodies via the foods we eat to assist us in work, rest and play.
There are seven main classes of nutrients the body needs; fats, proteins and carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and fibre all of which are required for energy, and let’s not forget about water especially with our bodies being made up of approximately 60% of it!
Food and nutrition are important to help promote health & wellness, normal growth, development and ageing, maintain a healthy body weight and reduces the risk of chronic disease.
Fundamentally, food and nutrition support health and wellness along with movement and exercise; the lifestyle of BEING.
Example of a Food & Nutrition workshop includes:
- Food identification workshop – Primarily focused on fruit and vegetables
- We are what we eat – An introduction to ‘how food affects health’
- Australian Guide to Healthy Eating – explanation of different food groups, and what is a balanced diet
- What’s in your lunchbox? “Swap it” activities. Healthy suggestions, recipes, and take-home information
- Healthy Habits – Why it is important to eat breakfast, have at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day and drink water
- Benefits of “eating a rainbow”
- How food helps our body and systems
- Taste test new and colourful foods
- Food systems and sustainability
The Food & Nutrition workshops aim is to support one and all:
- Offering food preparation and recipes tips & tricks to assist with making quick and nutritious fast food options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and all that is in-between.
- Learn how to ‘make time; when it comes to meal times and how making your own not only saves you time but money. Convenience doesn’t necessarily mean purchasing snacks and meals in a pre-packed option; it’s about setting some time aside each week to cook up grains, cut up veggies and cook in batches for freezing.
- Providing the knowledge and resources relating to food practices, preparation and nutritional aspects to help encourage everyone to view fresh seasonal food with a positive outlook and to understand the growing/harvesting (plot to plate) cycle relating back to the lifecycle of better health & wellbeing.
- Everything’s about ‘leading by example’ but learning from a child’s mind. Sharing knowledge with adults & children with either a demonstration or information session about the lifecycle and important of the foods we eat. Helping change the perception of foods; the workshop sessions allow the facilitator (Planted Life) to demonstrate how easy it is to create magic in the kitchen with few ingredients; how to make mac n cheese with potatoes and how to turn a tomato into a sauce for pizza.
- Food is fun; we are often told especially as children not to play with food however what child (or even adult) hasn’t enjoyed wearing cherries as earrings, using a banana as a telephone or putting a raspberry on each of their fingers to be like ET?
- Food is not only our number one energy source but it’s fun too; we need to encourage not discourage the exploration of food through our senses such as taste and smell but we also need to do so with touch; by touch we get to know our food, connect with it on a multi-dimensional level, we get to understand the foods we eat further through all our senses; all six of them.
This workshop is about the exploration of food through demonstrations and informative educational sessions for the young and old.
