Beetroot juice is one of the richest sources of antioxidants and naturally occurring nitrates. Nitrates are compounds which improve blood flow throughout the body including the brain, heart and muscles.
According to Sports Dietitians Australia (SDA) website “there appears to be beneficial effects on performance for a range of endurance and team sports activities…also appears that athletes training or competing at altitude may have particularly good responses to nitrate supplementation.”
How to use
Drink up to 500ml two to three hours before exercise or daily to benefit from a consistent intake of nitrates.
Potential side effects: Pink coloured urine and stools (both of which have scientifically been proven to be harmless)
